Opera Zuid is looking for singing talent from the region for new opera Uprising
Do you like to sing? In the shower, in a choir or maybe already on a stage? Then Opera Zuid is looking for you. For the new opera Uprising by composer Jonathan Dove, Opera Zuid and Het Geluid Maastricht are looking for local singing talent from the South Limburg region.
Use your voice for the future
Uprising is about young people and adults raising their voices for the future of the world. A topical and powerful opera in which music, energy and commitment come together. In November 2026, the performance will play in major theatres across the country, including at PLT in Theater Heerlen.
About Uprising
With Uprising, Opera Zuid, together with Het Geluid Maastricht and De Nationale Opera, presents a large-scale community opera that touches on one of the themes of our time: the climate crisis and the conversation about it. On the street, in politics, at the kitchen table, between generations and in the schoolyard.
Uprising is about young people's revolt for climate action, for change and their plea for a better world. The opera tells the story of a diametrically opposed mother and daughter, and shows how social tensions affect personal relationships. It is a deeply human story about listening, clashing and living together.
Who are we looking for?
For this project, the creators are looking for:
- adults of all ages and backgrounds
- sopranos and tenors, with or without much experience
- boys aged 15 to 22
- young people from bi-cultural backgrounds

Play along in major theatres
The opera plays in November 2026 in venues including:
- Theatre aan het Vrijthof
- Theatre Heerlen
- Parktheater Eindhoven
- Theatre Concert Hall Tilburg
