Spot Aan! Stories come to life during Children’s Book Week

From 30 September to 11 October 2026, Heerlen will be celebrating Children’s Book Week. Under the national theme Spot Aan! (Spot on!) , children will discover that stories don’t just exist in books, but also come to life through music, theatre, dance and creative activities. SCHUNCK, PLT, Nieuwe Nor and Boekhandel Dominicanen are joining forces for a joint programme full of stories and experiences.

At SCHUNCK, children can take part in events such as the Children’s Book Ball, a K-pop dance workshop and creative activities in the library.

Children’s Book Week kicks off on 30 September with a festive opening at Nieuwe Nor. During this opening, children will discover the world of live music, workshops and everything that happens behind the scenes on stage. Dominicanen Bookshop is also joining in with meet-and-greets with children’s book authors Yorick Goldewijk and Dieuwertje Mastenbroek.

The festive closing event will take place on Sunday 11 October during the BoekieWoekie Festival at PLT. On this festival day, the focus will be on young children, who will experience stories through performances, workshops and creative activities.
