The spotlight on legendary (Dutch) jazz moments and jazz artists

With the Dutch Jazz Heritage series, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, in collaboration with the Dutch Jazz Archive, turns the spotlight on legendary (Dutch) jazz moments and jazz artists. During this concert, the orchestra dives into the work of tenor saxophonist Kid Dynamite, who hails from Suriname.

Kid Dynamite & Efraïm Trujillo

Kid Dynamite created a furore from the 1930s: "He belongs to that class of musicians who perseveres and is not satisfied at the first applause", monthly magazine De Jazzwereld stated as early as 1937. He then enjoyed great fame in the 1950s as a musician at the Jazzclub Casablanca on Amsterdam's Zeedijk.

For this evening, the Jazz Orchestra has invited the versatile saxophonist Efraïm Trujillo to delve into Kid Dynamite's work. Trujillo was for many years the saxophonist of the renowned Surinamese group Fra Fra Sound. In 2001, he collaborated as an arranger on Hans Hylkema's documentary Kid Dynamite - Surinamese Swing on the Zeedijk about Kid Dynamite's life and music.

The musical direction of this swinging concert is in the hands of Johan Plomp.
