and unique to admire world star Anne Sofie von Otter in Heerlen.
Swedish grande dame of singing Anne Sofie von Otter has shone in operas and recitals worldwide for more than four decades. Her oeuvre shows unprecedented versatility, from classical repertoire to duets with Elvis Costello and Rufus Wainwright. The Belgian chamber music ensemble.
Oxalys makes it possible to hear this icon live on our concert stage. A unique opportunity. Together they perform a multifaceted programme of 20th-century music; from Kurt Weill's Die Moritat von Mackie Messer and Busoni' s Berceuse Elégiaque to French chansons and songs from 1920s and 1930s Berlin.
The style of song
Founded in 1993, Oxalys finds its basic repertoire in the Belle Epoque (1870-1930). But the ensemble also has a heart for vocal chamber music from the 19th-century fin de siècle. To perform this oeuvre, the musicians surround themselves with excellent soloists, such as in this concert: Anne Sofie von Otter.
Mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter enjoys singing Mahler, Schubert and Brahms as much as Swedish folk music and jazz. Witness also her collaborations with legendary artists, from Carlos Kleiber, Claudio Abbado and Giuseppe Sinopoli to Elvis Costello, Brad Mehldau and Rufus Wainwright. She herself says: "I like to keep my voice and my creativity alert by alternating styles. Meanwhile, audiences expect the same from me. I like to follow the style of a song with my voice. Where do I add vibrato and how much, where do I use a lighter voice, where do I sing in my head and where do I use my chest register? The voice has so many colours, I find that interesting and wonderful to vary with."
