Mesdames et Messieurs, bienvenue! Welcome to the sixteen eighties; the pink revolution of the French Baroque.
Toute la nuit is danced at the court of none other than Louis XIV in BEYOND THE BALL . But let's face it: the Sun King has made enough history, so for him only a paltry supporting role in this libretto. Collective Aqueerius presents Julie d'Aubigny, better known as Madame de Maupin, in this brand new musical.
Madame de Maupin is an opera diva, duellist and rebel. This queen of colouratura fights with her voice and her sword against the stifling social norms and classes of her time. At the same time, she conquers the hearts of many a man and woman. Today, this queer-icon avant la lettre claims her place in history in a true story that is so exciting it will turn your ears ruby red.

About the makers
Collective Aqueerius consists of Charlotte Dommershausen, Seppe Salome and Jip Warmerdam. They make innovative queer electropop musicals, balancing on campy waves between art and kitsch. Inspired by contemporary pop culture, science and an inexplicable fascination with history, they blend these elements into vibrant, new narrative forms and universes, breaking the (gender) norms of traditional theatre.
