A musical Christmas.
What the St Matthew Passion is to Passion time, the Christmas Oratorio is to Christmas. Bach wrote this masterpiece for the Christmas season in 1734. He was 49 at the time and at the height of his career. The oratorio revolves entirely around the birth of Jesus and the Feast of the Epiphany. Parts 1 to 3 cover the First, Second and Third Days of Christmas, part 4 New Year's Day, part 5 the Sunday after New Year and part 6 Epiphany.
The Heerlen Oratorio Society will perform the complete work with Orkest Conservatoire and soloists Hannah Morrisson (soprano), Carina Vinke (alto), Pascal Pittie (tenor) and Vincent Kusters (bass baritone). The musical direction is in the hands of Emmanuël Pleijers.
