The Current by Golden Swan winners Club Guy & Roni, Boris Acket and HIIIT is an immersive performance with dance, live percussion and electronic music. Instead of the familiar theatre set-up, you enter a landscape of corridors and spaces. Performers, musicians and spectators share the same environment: one moment you merge into the group, the next you move in a different direction.
Inspired by the rave culture and gabber scene of the 1990s, this creates a new experience in which individuality and collectivity are in tension: do we move with the flow or do we resist?
The Human Odyssey by Club Guy & Roni
The Current is part of The Human Odyssey, an artistic trajectory on which Club Guy & Roni explores how people create meaning and connection through collective physical experiences. Bringing the physical and cultural codes of club culture to the stage, The Current approaches raving as embodied resistance and an expression of freedom. In the adventurous installation you move freely through as an audience, the performers reconstruct a night where pain, trauma and segregation are left on the dance floor as they move towards liberation and a shared release.
Live percussion and electronic music by producer Max Frimout and Stanislav Tolkachev combine to create an intense soundscape. NITE actor and singer Sarah Janneh (known from Brabo leone, among others) interprets lyrics by South African author Ronelda S. Kamfer to the music.

Above all, I admire the way they dare to let current and urgent themes abrade in their performances and use multiple disciplines. "A quarter of a century of professional rebellion", headlined the Volkskrant. Not for nothing did Guy Weizman and Roni Haver receive both the Golden Swan and the Jiři Kylian Ring last year. That says it all about the quality and impact of their work. Besides the dance lover, this also appeals to a younger audience; a good development. In The Current , they explore the physical and cultural codes of club culture and see in it an expression of resistance and an expression of freedom. We desperately need it!"
