Haunting, gripping, powerful, poetic
French dancer and choreographer Anne Nguyen presented the performance À mon bel Amour and the installation Dance of the city warriors during schrit_tmacher 2021. Now she returns with her latest performance Witch Hunting. In it, six dancers with different dance styles - krump, popping and African urban and traditional dances - explore the concept of cultural identity. Who are you and how do you hold your own in a group?
Teamwork that makes you think
In Witch Hunting, the dancers explore their identity as individuals to spectacular music. But they also try to influence the movements of the others as a group. That interplay prompts thinking. Together, they find a common harmony: haunting, catchy, powerful and poetic. The music was composed especially for Witch Hunting and uses percussion, prepared piano and krump sounds. The rhythms and melodies take you on the dancers' individual quest but also reinforce the power of the group.
About Anne Nguyen
French dancer, choreographer and poet Anne Nguyen has her roots in hip-hop culture. She earned her spurs as a b-girl (breakdancer) in hundreds of battles and performed with hip-hop crews such as Black Blanc Beur. In 2005, she founded her own company Compagnie par Terre and the same year she broke through with the solo performance Square Root. She then made nine productions including Promenade obligatoire (2012) for eight poppers.
