DANSLAB 3 offers the ultimate chance to meet the latest generation of makers in contemporary dance. Exciting choreographies by five new makers follow each other in rapid succession. From the stunning dance of Sellam El Achari and the penetrating work of Anne Suurendonk to the fraternal collaboration of Justin de Jager & Sem Deliveyne. Before their work hits the stage, the makers introduce themselves and their work - on video.
SALLY & Via Zuid
DANSLAB is an initiative of SALLY and talent developer Via Zuid. It is the podium for experimentation and innovation in contemporary dance in the Southern Netherlands. New makers are given room in the 'lab' to experiment with dance styles, modern interpretations, challenging themes and unexpected combinations. They present the result of this adventurous, exciting research in a joint show the theatre.
Five new makers
DANSLAB 3 presents five makers, each occupying a unique position within the Dutch dance field. The young dancer/choreographer Sellam El Achari (FR) impressed during DANSLAB 2 with his solo Memories and was nominated for a Jonge Zwaan in 2023 for most impressive dance achievement in youth dance. During the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC) 2025, the duo Justin de Jager (NL) and Sem Deliveyne (BE) won the SALLY Partner Award for their performance Brothers. Especially for DANSLAB 3, the two will create a brand new work. Anne Suurendonk is another notable creator. She won the Innovation Award of Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht 2024 for her work on the cutting edge of film, theatre and dance. The other names remain a surprise for now.
The hall upside down
The audience is also part of DANSLAB. Each performance concludes with the interactive 'choreography experiment', which challenges the audience to create a choreography together. You are given the necessary ingredients beforehand; after that, it's your turn! DANSLAB 3 thus puts everyone in motion and the auditorium on its head.
