Questions demand answers and answers demand words
David van Rosmalen was born over 16 million minutes ago. Since then, he has had questions and looked everywhere for answers. He searches for the meaning of life with full sentences full of meaningful nonsense. He believes that you don't find answers without words. Without words, you only find 'ant' and that is of no use.
In his musical cabaret show Als ik jou was, David takes you on a philosophical journey of discovery through his life. He looks back at the choices that have made him who he is today and asks himself: could I have chosen differently? Because David can do what he wants, but could he have wanted differently? And does he actually know what he wants?
A fish in ever-warmer water
David van Rosmalen studied psychology and philosophy and worked for several years as a behavioural consultant in sustainability transitions. In his spare time, he played the piano and played with words. When he decided to try that once on a stage, he felt like a fish in increasingly hot water. David won the student, audience and jury prize of the Leids Cabaret Festival in 2025 with Als ik jou was. The jury praised his "virtuoso word art," and De Volkskrant described his work as "an intelligent mixture of (word) jokes, spoken word, piano songs and Dutch hip-hop."
