An act of resistance, with far-reaching consequences
On 23 May 2027, Partizanen will premiere, the new theatre spectacle by Servé Hermans and Toneelgroep Maastricht. The show is based on true facts about a group of young Limburg resistance fighters who commit an extraordinary act during the Second World War with far-reaching consequences.
After Dagboek van een Herdershond, Het Geluk van Limburg, Het was Zondag in het Zuiden and Bokkenrijders, Partizanen will be the fifth major regional production by Servé Hermans and Toneelgroep Maastricht. This time in close cooperation with Theu Boermans, who filmed the story for television in 1994 and is now writing the script.
Together with director Servé Hermans, Boermans promises that the performance will be more than just a narrative. It will be an experience in a set dominated by state-of-the-art theatrical techniques. The audience is placed in a Limburg forest together with the partisans, making it palpable how these ordinary Limburgers found themselves in extreme and exceptional situations. A theatrical experience that will stay with you.
The story
At the end of World War II in Limburg, with liberation in sight, a few friends decide it is time for action. As inexperienced resistance heroes, they embark on a daring mission: getting weapons, ammunition and vehicles to help the Allies. They go a step further and take more than 30 Germans prisoner of war. When the Gestapo gets wind of this, there is nothing to do but move from hiding place to hiding place with their prisoners. What follows is an exciting journey full of tension, mounting irritations and the risk of betrayal. At the same time, close bonds, awkward moments and comical situations arise that no one knows how to deal with.
