A tribute to the Dutch winner of the Tour de France.
On 3 December 2026, 'our Joop from Rijpwetering' will turn 80. The Netherlands' most successful cyclist of all time invites his supporters, young and old, past and present, to celebrate with him in Sittard. Joop is not coming alone. In this fast-twitching show, a headlining group full of world-famous celebrities, music, stunning cycling cinema and other demolishing surprises passes by.
A team of performers with a big cycling heart
As unbeatable as the Ploeg Post at the time, a team of artists with a big cycling heart will bring a theatrical, musical and literary tribute to Joop. Herman van der Zandt knows that the struggle in cycling is like real life. Mart Smeets showcases his personal memories of the indelible highlights of Joop's career. Matthijs van Nieuwkerk assumes the role of curator of the Joop Museum. JW Roy sings his magnificent ode to Joop. Several well-known vocalists venture into the hit parade repertoire of those days, accompanied by the musical grandmasters of Ocobar. Loyal teammates and world-famous cycling stars such as Leo van Vliet, Henk Lubberding, Johan van der Velde and Adrie van der Poel will join in. And if that is not enough, Joop's formidable opponent Bernard Hinault will help blow out the 80 candles on the birthday cake.
Still the leader of our country
The leader himself is displaying his yellow and rainbow jersey and will not only let his legs do the talking for this exceptional programme. From his first years as an amateur to his greatest victories, with Olympic gold in 1968, the Tour de France in the summer of 1980 and the world title in 1985 as highlights. But also the races in which he just missed out on winning, his competitors, teammates and coaches; from Eddy Merckx to Jan Raas and Peter Post. Everything passes by in this imaginative retrospective.
