The magic of disco revives
Get ready for a sizzling evening where the golden years of the dance floor are revived. With a 13-piece formation, Donna's Hot Stuff pays a grand and energetic tribute to Donna Summer, the artist who changed pop and dance music forever. This theatre tour focuses on her impressive oeuvre - from the rousing energy of Hot Stuff and Bad Girls to the iconic I Feel Love and the timeless emotion of Last Dance.
The songs are performed with respect for the original but given a fresh live energy, making the music sound urgent and compelling once again. At the heart of the show is Irma Derby, also known as the Dutch Queen of Soul. With her powerful voice, great range and natural charisma, she manages to capture the essence of Donna Summer without imitating her.
Live band, glamour and crowning glory
Surrounding Irma Derby is an extensive live band that leaves nothing to chance. Fiery backing vocals, tight horns, rousing percussion, grooving keys and energetic dancers combine to create a show that overwhelms both musically and visually. Glitz and glamour are never far away, always in service of the groove.
The quality of Donna's Hot Stuff did not go unnoticed: the band became one of the two winners of The Tribute - Battle of the Bands, season 5. This theatre tour is a celebration of an artist who inspired generations and gave new meaning to the dance floor - and shows that this music is still alive and connecting.
Let's talk about... Donna Summer
Prior to the Donna Summer tribute in Theater Heerlen, we will host a short lecture, for a small price of €4,-, about a special piece of local music history. The focus will be on Donna Summer's 1975 performance in bar dancing Manuela in Heerlen, in the period before she became world-famous as the Queen of Disco. On the basis of stories, memories and interviews with eyewitnesses, we simultaneously sketch a vivid portrait of the illustrious Heerlen nightlife of those days, with well-known establishments like Shangri-La and Cosmos Underground. This will create an evening full of music, nostalgia and special local stories - an atmospheric prelude to a tribute full of Donna Summer classics. This lecture will be hosted by Marco Smeets.
Marco Smeets from Heerlen is active in the culture and music sector as a programme maker, interviewer, presenter and creator of podcasts. He works at the intersection of media, music, pop culture and communication and is involved in cultural and musical projects in the region, among other things, as well as presenting TV and radio programmes and interviews with creators, artists and eyewitnesses.
