What do our slavery past and melting ice caps have to do with each other? The answer is: everything. During colonialism, it was all about exploitation of people, animals, lands, seas and skies. And although slavery has been officially abolished, it lives on in our culture. We treat the earth as a supermarket and give animals fewer rights than cruise ships. As the shelves empty, we try to preserve our lifestyle with technological solutions. But perhaps we still need to finish something: decolonising skies, waters, animals and nature.

In A Bigger Story, Bureau Vergezicht (known for The Shell Case), together with actress Romana Vrede, looks for what a decolonised earth looks like. Not through indignation, but with humour, imagination and rich language. A declaration of love to the world and a quest for how to stay with it.

Writer Anoek Nuyens: "In recent decades, it has mainly been scientists and politicians who have set the tone of the climate debate. That has produced a lot of valuable research. Now it is time to take over the baton and turn that knowledge into grand and compelling stories that people will shape their identities and live by. Stories have transformative power, because with a good story you don't just describe the world, you write the world for it. It is time we started telling new stories."

About the creators

Romana Vrede is an acclaimed creator/actor, known for film and TV productions and for her roles in shows at Het Nationale Theater. Bureau Vergezicht is the theatre company of Anoek Nuyens, Erik Whien and Rebekka de Wit. Together, they create investigative and compelling stories about power, climate and shared responsibility. The company encourages citizens, multinationals and politicians to think and act far beyond the theatre. They previously made The Shell Case and A Piece to the People.
