A hypnotic dance performance about the seduction of the collective.

In Folk, a lavish club night slowly turns into an intoxicating ritual. The dance floor becomes an altar and the night a succession of ceremonies in which uniformity takes over. As the atmosphere tilts, the dynamics also change: the group forms a collective identity that constantly shifts, with no foothold. Individuals are swallowed up or repelled. Folk thus shows how confrontational, seductive and frightening collective forces can be.

New rituals at the intersection of tradition, trance and transformation

Eight international dancers bring to life this virtuoso, technically sophisticated choreography by Swan winner Dunja Jocić. She drew inspiration for Folk from the rich folk traditions of the former Yugoslavia and the turbulent 1990s, when ideological shifts profoundly altered everyday life and personal identity. Beyond this historical context, Jocić reconsiders her own roots and draws parallels with today's world. In Folk, she uses the raw energy of Balkan music and dance to give birth to new rituals: at the intersection of tradition, trance and transformation, with echoes of social upheavals.
