For over fifty years, Hawkwind have been proving that music knows no bounds. The British rock band are regarded as the pioneers of space rock and take the audience on an adventurous journey filled with heavy guitars, hypnotic rhythms and science-fiction-like atmospheres. Led by founder Dave Brock, Hawkwind has become an influential name in rock music, with a loyal following of fans all over the world.
Pioneers of space rock
Since their breakthrough in the 1970s, Hawkwind have been renowned for their distinctive sound, which blends rock, psychedelia and progressive music. With classics such as Silver Machine and Space Ritual, the band left a lasting mark on the genre. Their influence extends far beyond the world of rock and has inspired generations of musicians, from progressive rock bands to electronic acts.
Q&A with Hawkwind
Ahead of the concert, the Mosae Zappa Festival presents a Q&A with members of the band and presenter Tim op het Broek. This Q&A is open to the public for a small fee of €4 and can be booked as part of a package deal.
Before and after the show, Mosae Zappa’s resident DJs, The Disco Boyz, will be playing some great music.
The Disco Boyz
The Disco Boyz are the resident DJs of the renowned Mosae Zappa festival and guarantee musical fun with a record case full of Zappa-esque tunes, freaky, funky, jazzy floor-fillers and other weird stuff. Especially for this occasion, they’ll be curating a selection from their impressive space and krautrock collection. The Boyz are true enthusiasts, so you’ve been warned!
The Disco Boyz collective consists of Mike Kramer (Concertzender), Sjon Mobers (Whoest), Tim Op Het Broek (NPO Radio 2) and Marco Smeets (RTV Parkstad). Sometimes they play as a duo, sometimes as a trio, and when the stars align, all four of them turn up. Freak out? You bet!
Mosae Zappa Festival
Mosae Zappa is the leading Frank Zappa event in the Netherlands and the Euregional Meuse-Rhine region. This multi-day festival celebrates the music and life of composer, satirist and musical jack-of-all-trades Frank Zappa (1940–1993). The highlight of its annual programme of events is the Mosae Zappa Festival, which features a weekend-long programme of various bands and other (live) acts at various venues in the centre of Heerlen. The first edition took place in 2011, and this November the festival will celebrate its fifteenth anniversary and tenth edition. The aim of the festival is to keep Frank Zappa’s music alive and to discover and embrace other music that is ‘outside the norm’. Mosae Zappa stands for musical freedom in the broadest sense of the word.

Psychedelic Selection
Psychedelic Selection is a new compilation from Hawkwind featuring both new studio material and previously unreleased archive recordings. The album combines new tracks, reworked classics and live-in-studio recordings, bringing together the band’s past, present and future.
Highlights include the new tracks ‘Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad’, ‘There Are Fairies In The Garden’, ‘The Judge And The Fisherman’ and ‘Goonhilly Downs’. The album also features reworked versions of older tracks and guitarist Huw Lloyd-Langton’s final recording with the band.
With its blend of space rock, psychedelia and experimental electronica, *Psychedelic Selection* is both a wonderful introduction for new listeners and a valuable addition for existing fans. Hawkwind will be supporting the release with live performances in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands in 2026.
Initial reactions have been positive. Midlands Rocks describes the album as a splendid “blast from the distant past” and believes the current line-up demonstrates that they are still performing at an excellent standard. Buzz Magazine praises the musicians’ craftsmanship, though it questions the decision to re-record older tracks. At the same time, the new material is praised as “dynamic” and “hypnotic”.
