A big story, in a small package.
An empty suitcase is travelling through the Netherlands. Completely empty? The accordion it once contained is gone, but the music is left behind. Each melody evokes a different memory from the accordion's life.
Het Koffertje (The Suitcase) tells a big story in a small package. With leftover material, inventive wood-rope mechanisms and music, theatre-maker and actress Ruta van Hoof brings the suitcase to life. Small worlds with playing dogs, dancing cassette tapes and surprised owls appear right before your eyes. And in the blink of an eye, Ruta makes you love a few pieces of wood or a rusty pan sponge. Intimate, enchanting, musical object theatre about losing, missing and being found.
About the makers
Ruta van Hoof has played at Toneelgroep Oostpool, Het Nationale toneel and Het Filiaal Theatermakers, among others. Ramses Graus played in more than 70 theatre productions. From 2009 to 2023, he was a member of the artistic team of Het Filiaal Theatermakers company in Utrecht, where his performance Mrs Ophelia won the Silver Cricket, and he himself the Golden Cricket for his role in the Great Illusionist. With The Horde, the two make worlds with everything at hand.
