Het Muziek speelt A Dust in Time

An acoustic space for reflection.

The Music is our country's frontier ensemble for new music. In Theater Heerlen, the ensemble plays A Dust in Time by American-Chinese composer Huang Ro; a meditative journey in which the strings never let go of each other for a moment. You can experience this concert lying down. Would you rather sit? Then there are seats in the balcony.

A Tibetan sand mandala

WithA Dust in Time, Huang Ro created, as he himself describes it, "an acoustic space to reflect, to mourn, to find inner peace and hope." The composer compares the piece to a Tibetan sand mandala: a complex figure first meticulously crafted and then destroyed. The music grows from a single point to colourful fullness, then shrinks and disappears. Just as time seems to disappear. "From a whisper-soft duet of cello and viola, a pulsating vision develops extremely slowly, which after the passage of an hour dissolves just as slowly into nothingness again. Fascinating, and an impressive display of concentration by the players," writes Trouw.
