Chamber music for the dance floor.
Grammy-winning percussion group Third Coast Percussion and Pulitzer Prize-finalist Jlin join forces in Vernacular. In this concert we present in collaboration with Intro in Situ, TCP's contemporary classical background meets Jlin's powerful and innovative electronic approach in a new, fresh sound, perhaps best described as chamber music for the dance floor.
One of the most influential women in electronic music
Jlin (aka Jerrilynn Patton) is one of the most distinctive composers in America today and also one of the most influential women in electronic music.
Her style is influenced by her roots in the Chicago Footwork scene, but as much inspired by West Chicago legend RP Boo as by Igor Stravinsky and Philip Glass, Miles Davis and Eartha Kitt. She creates a complex, percussion-driven body of work with a sophisticated and unique polyrhythmic character.
A completely new sound universe
Her collaboration with Third Coast Percussion, one of the best percussion groups in the world, marks Jlin's evolution towards chamber music. TCP has travelled a unique path within the musical landscape. With virtuosic and energetic performances, this quartet celebrates the extraordinary depth and versatility within the world of percussion. Their "impressively elegant" (NY Times) live at Theater Heerlen enters into a dialogue with Jlin's genre-bending compositions. Together, they evoke a completely new sound universe.
