NEGEN is a new choreography by Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana for nine dancers and a DJ. The number 9 is the unmissable ambivalent symbol for completion, enlightenment, transformation, compassion, the fruits of the Holy Spirit, obsession and apocalyptic tension. Nine dancers complete an exhausting, physical quest for a new order in this performance. To this end, the DJ uses 4D audio to create nine spatial light horizons, from aesthetically alluring to powerfully treacherous, which extinguish each time. Until inevitably the ultimate perspective presents itself.

Is the new order better?

In NINE, the chaos that surrounds human beings is physically palpable. Recognisable movement patterns emerge with nervous energy and fade unexpectedly. Like unstable equilibria. With extreme contrasts. A keynote of unfocused energy, of struggle. A ray of light. The new human. And a hope ordered by artful intelligence. Are we waiting for this? What do we leave behind and what disappears with the chaos? And is the new order better than our chaos? Than confusion, pity or a smile?
