Luistervinken - Sibelius' eerste symfonie
Tijmen Wehlburg & Gabriel Arias LunaTheater Heerlen - Kleine Zaal
The perfect amuse bouche for Sibelius' first symphony by the London Philharmonic on 15 January.
Tijmen Wehlburg's Listening Finches are an ideal palate cleanser in our classical music programme. Ahead of the London Philharmonic's concert on 15 January, he puts Sibelius' first symphony into perspective. Discover how Sibelius' development as a composer was linked to the awakening of the national pride of the Finnish people, and how you can hear this reflected in his music. Tijmen will also talk to Gabriel Arias Luna, 1st cellist of Philzuid. He will perform Sibelius' theme with variations for solo cello in this intimate setting.
Three Eavesdroppers
Tijmen Wehlburg is a music connoisseur par excellence. He knows the way to the finest peaks and depths in classical music: "It is sometimes difficult to fathom the depth of classical music. I love being able to give an insight into that. Knowing, by the way, that that peek usually creates a hunger for more."
This season, Tijmen is hosting three Listening Sessions:
- 7 September on the great piano duos and their music with Kasper Schonewille
- 7 January on Sibelius' first symphony with Gabriel Arias Luna
- 10 March on the role of rhythm as a revolutionary force behind music with Dominique Vleeshouwers
