An evening full of delightful anecdotes and beautiful songs from Luka Bloom’s extensive body of work

Luka Bloom and the Netherlands: it’s a connection that goes back more than thirty years. In the early nineties, the Irish singer-songwriter played memorable shows at Paradiso, Tivoli and Noorderligt, performed at Pinkpop, and saw his music frequently featured on Dutch radio. That special connection with Dutch audiences endured. In 2001, he even captured it on a live album, recorded at Carré.

Since then, Bloom has kept coming back, with concerts that have sometimes taken an unexpected turn. Such as his performance during the pandemic in a church in Nijmegen, in front of a fully masked audience, or that evening in Rotterdam when the power cut out and he simply carried on playing. It is precisely those kinds of moments that characterise his performances: pure, personal and unpretentious.

Following heart surgery two years ago, it was for a while uncertain whether Bloom would return to the Netherlands. Now his voice and energy have returned, and with them the desire to take to the stage. In November and December, he’ll be returning to the Low Countries, to the audience with whom he has shared such a special history for so long. And that is perhaps what he himself is looking forward to most of all.

“For 35 years, coming to the Lowlands to sing my songs has always been very special. And this year it will be even more so. In 2025, I turned 70. I celebrated this birthday by releasing a new song called BELOVED. I wrote the other songs and two instrumental pieces just before I was admitted to hospital in Dublin for open-heart surgery. The album is dedicated to the surgeon, doctors and nurses, family and friends who saved my life. Thank you, Life.”
