This is Irish music next level
After the success of An Irish Evening with Men of Name, a sequel was bound to happen. The Irish adventures of these seasoned purebred musicians continue in Back to Ireland. Expect familiar Irish sing-alongs from bands such as The Dubliners and The Pogues. Of course, the rousing Celtic tunes, tear-jerking ballads and juicy stories full of humour will not be missing.
Suitcases full of inspiration
Those stories mainly come from frontman and master storyteller Ton Smulders. During Mannen van Naam's most recent 'study trip' to Ireland, he managed to elicit a hilarious, exciting or moving anecdote from many a chatty Irishman in pubs. Meanwhile, his companions, Ad Grooten with his mandolin, Wilbert van Duinhoven with his accordion and Siard de Jong with his violin, took part in joyful music sessions. With suitcases full of inspiration, the foursome returned home.
The result of this journey is an all-new programme with which the Men bring the Irish sense of belonging to the theatre: "Just for a while, all together against the rest of the world." Or, as someone put it after a performance, "This is Irish music next level!" duly noted.
