Marathon is a post-punk band from Amsterdam and one of the most promising new acts on the Dutch alternative rock scene. The band, comprising Kay Koopmans, Lennart van Hulst, Nina Lijzenga, Sofie Ooteman and Victor Dijkstra, blends the dark energy of post-punk with influences from indie rock and shoegaze. Driven by a shared desire for music that pushes the boundaries of the mainstream, Marathon operates in the tension between volume and emotion. Postmodern frustrations are not denied, but channelled into space for a new beginning.
A year full of highlights
In April 2025, their debut album *Fading Image* was released, a record about transience, identity and resilience in a world that is constantly changing shape. In the same year, Marathon were nominated for the 3voor12 Award, the band featured in the top lists of best acts at Lowlands, and they played their biggest headline show to date: the main stage at Paradiso. And the marathon is far from over!
