Death is always lurking.
In *Ashes to Ashes*, the creators of MC Makita take the Biblical commandment ‘you shall return to dust’ painfully literally. This debut performance by these young creators is a physical and philosophical exploration of perhaps the greatest question of all: what do we do with death? And how do you live with the realisation that it could all be over at any moment? With raw scenes, black humour, litres of fake blood and a healthy dose of zest for life, they attempt to visualise their own demise. Be prepared: in this performance, anything can be destroyed.
Young creators
MC Makita is a young, bold collective comprising Anne van der Vegt, David Roos, Noah Janssen and QiQi van Boheemen. They met at the Maastricht Theatre Academy. Just like the drills of the same name, MC Makita’s work is devastating; ‘Ashes to Ashes’ is at once aesthetic, banal and thrilling. For Noah Janssen (Sittard, 1995), this will be his first time performing at Cultura Nova. Anne van der Vegt, together with her twin sister Lieke van de Vegt, has previously presented work at the festival on two occasions.*Ashes to Ashes* is MC Makita’s debut performance and will premiere at Cultura Nova.
