The toil and fun of two generations.

A family comes together in their holiday home. You follow their dreams and desires, but also see their sadness and jealousy. The young try to make their own voices heard, the older generation prefers to keep everything as it is. Director Nina Spijkers brings Chekhov' s comedy Seagull to life in a new way. You will see, among others, Jaap Spijkers, Tamar van den Dop, Emma Buysse and Alex Hendrickx in a painfully recognisable clash between two generations.

Clash between two generations

In the play, the young ambitious writer (Emma Buysse) presents her first play, her boyfriend (Alex Hendrickx) plays the lead. Together, they want to change the world with their play. Her father and his girlfriend (Jaap Spijkers and Tamar van den Dop), themselves famous actors and writers, prefer to keep everything as it was. Is there room for a new voice, or will the earlier generation keep the door closed?

Alive and dangerously funny

Director Nina Spijkers shows with a bold new look how alive and dangerously funny Chekhov can be: "Chekhov is one of my favourite writers because he is perhaps the best dissecter of the human soul who ever wrote for the stage. He called his play a comedy. I very much look forward to capturing that lightness on stage." In doing so, Spijkers opts for a gender swap of some key roles: "By having women play men's roles and vice versa, a 130-year-old play feels like it was written yesterday. It remains Chekhov's words, but now with even more powerful women's roles and more entries for humour."
