TheT.rex lived at the end of the dino age and was probably the most dangerous predator to ever roam on land. How long ago was that, really? What did the earth look like in the time of the dinosaurs and how could they have died out just like that?

Dr Melanie During discovered the season when the meteorite struck that ended 165 million years of dinosaurs. With over 12 years of excavation experience, from the Winterswijk quarry to the badlands of North Dakota, she knows how fieldwork works. And yet: on the penultimate day of one such expedition, on her way to the car, she tripped over a protruding bone while a few metres away, a colleague goes flat on his plate over an even bigger bone....

Fieldwork looks slightly different in practice than on TV. Melanie takes you past mosquitoes, heat, hailstorms, tornadoes, rattlesnakes, and perhaps the greatest challenge of all... people. people. In between, you will learn how animals fossilise, how palaeontologists retrieve them, how unlikely it actually is that we are still here after five mass extinctions, and how old the Earth really is.
