An imaginative, physical theatre performance about sometimes feeling lonely, but being in it together.
Sitting on a bench near the school sports field. Alone. Your sports bag is lost beside you and music is playing in your earphones. You stare at the sky until your eyes sting and the cloud colours fade. There you sit with all your questions. Why can I sometimes feel so alone when there is so much in this universe? How is it that Earth is so big but just a tiny speck in the Milky Way? Why do my trainers have to be bought growing up? When am I grown out or am I never? Or am I expanding infinitely, like the universe?
But then suddenly in your backpack a portal to another dimension opens and you are no longer alone with your questions. Floating upside down through the Milky Way, you go in search of answers.
An ode to friendship and imagination
Milky Way is an imaginative, physical theatre performance about feeling lonely sometimes, but being there together. About hanging between being a child and an adult and putting your questions in motion. And about trusting that someone is always there for you when the questions in your head threaten to overflow. The performance, made at Maas theatre and dance, won the Silver Cricket 'for most impressive youth theatre production 2024' and was nominated for a Young Swan 'for most impressive youth dance production'. A new cast of inspired dancers brings it back to the stage at PLT.
