A musical journey along the river
This theatrical music project brings together classical, jazz and hip-hop in a musical narrative about the encounter between The River and The Man. With songs and spoken word, the story of a turbulent journey is told: from the river's source to its outflow into the sea.
Along the way, different aspects of flowing water pass by, as well as the cities, flora, fauna and pollution the river encounters. Words, music and visuals combine to form a whole, supported by images by award-winning nature filmmakers Arthur de Bruin and Dick Harrewijn.
Music, spoken word and imagination
The performance brings together different musical worlds, with soprano Claron McFadden as The River and spoken word artist Manu van Kersbergen as The Man.
The compositions are by Joan Reinders and the story, libretto and spoken word were developed by Marieke Meischke. The performance is inspired by the book De Drinkbare Rivier by Li An Phoa.
