MOM is a new performance by theatre group Neveldieren (Spinvis, Saartje Van Camp and Niels Jonker) about masks, facial recognition and safety. About the eyes that see us always and everywhere. Which version of yourself do they actually see? And which one do you see yourself? What do you want to share? What can't you share with anyone?
About the eyes that see us always and everywhere
In the play, a woman is questioned. She has been behaving suspiciously. Cameras have established that. She does not know what she has done wrong. She does not know what her interrogators want to hear. Moreover, they already seem to know everything about her. Really everything. They know what the woman thinks, what she does, what she dreams. They already know everything. They just want her explanation.
MOM is played and sung by Hans Dagelet (flugelhorn, mamola, keys), Saartje Van Camp (cello, keys) and Spinvis (guitar, drums and keys). "Inventive how they bring together two quite different lines into an overarching sense of being watched, accountability and search for identity," writes Theaterkrant. "Whether you feel watched or condemned by a god, cameras, the media or your loved ones, each must weigh up how to behave and reconcile that with his inner critic. The closing scene, moreover, is brilliant."
