A good habit to start the new year banging.
Heart, mind and soul are refreshed after the holidays with Philzuid' s New Year's concert. This time, the orchestra of the South takes you on an invigorating round of Viennese classics from Johann Strauss and Franz Lehar to a lesser-known waltz fantasy by Russian Mikhail Glinka. As usual, there is also room for adventure. For instance, Philzuid's solo trumpeter Ramon Wolkenfelt will shine in the shimmering Trumpet Concerto by Armenian composer Grigori.
Trumpet spectacle
Aleksandr Arutiunian Grigori, who died in 2012, became world-famous with his Trumpet Concerto.
In this unbridled trumpet spectacle swirling with energy, which every soloist loves to sink their teeth into, he incorporates inspired Eastern European melodies and radiant harmonies. Ramon Wolkenfelt may soon conjure up all the technical delights from his toolbox.
Special guest is also the celebrated Dutch baritone Raoul Steffani, one of the most versatile baritones in the Netherlands. As recently as 2023, he won the important Dutch Music Prize. In the New Year's concert, Steffani throws himself wholeheartedly into beneficent arias by Albert Lortzing, Johann Strauss and Franz Lehár.
