Letters to my Habits
Nona grew up in Uden, Brabant, surrounded by her parents’ soul records, and developed a love of music from an early age. Following the loss of her father at a young age, she went through a turbulent period, during which she lived in Curaçao, amongst other places, and eventually found her way into music. She recorded songs in New York with the producer duo Likeminds (John Legend, The Roots) and made her breakthrough with her debut album *Nona* (2019), which led to nominations and performances at major festivals such as Pinkpop, North Sea Jazz, Paaspop and Down The Rabbit Hole.
After several successful years, she parted ways with her record label and management. In Denmark, she discovered a new version of herself. Back in the Netherlands, she signed with V2 Records and embarked on a fresh chapter. Her new music is rawer, more honest and more organic, featuring live instruments and plenty of space for her warm, lived-in voice. You can hear influences from soul, blues, rock and pop, with echoes of greats such as Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin and Adele, as well as Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters. Nona’s songs tell personal stories and touch on universal themes such as love, loss and resilience. You can see Nona on 24 September at the Nieuwe Nor!
