Female jazz composers in the spotlight.
Under the mythical name JUNO, the queen of the Olympic gods, Nu Art Orchestra and Anna Webber put female jazz composers in the spotlight.
Nu Art Orchestra is an initiative of saxophonist Marike van Dijk. Driven by her desire to present a refreshing big band sound and get more female musicians on the jazz stage, she managed to put together a line-up of mostly great female musicians. They include Tineke Postma, Suzan Veneman, Ellister van der Molen, Nabou Claerhout and Maxine Troglauer. Last year, they released their debut album The TivoliSessions #1.
Innovative jazz full of adventure
Joining them especially for this tour is also Anna Webber. Anna Webber is a Canadian saxophonist, flautist and composer based in New York. In her music, she explores the border between avant-garde jazz and contemporary classical music, merging experimentation and improvisation.
With her idiosyncratic compositions and innovative approach, Webber has become a notable name on the international jazz scene. She brings a multifaceted sound in which rhythm, tension and unexpected musical turns are central.
