A bodily metamorphosis in an 'abyssal' and poetic dimension.
"With the immortals, every action (and every thought) is an echo of those who anticipated it in the past or the faithful omen of those who will repeat it in the future to the dizzying degree."- Jorge Luis Borges
The visual theatre/dance performance Chroniques reveals the universe of Peeping Tom.
Five characters trapped in a maze, mutate and collide in an attempt to defy immortality. Their existence takes place in a vast sulphurous landscape, which unfolds in a series of chroniques. Is this landscape the ground for new creations or is it made up of remnants of what once existed? Faced with other laws and physical phenomena, their bodies reveal other possibilities of being. Without knowing whether they are in the twilight or dawn of their existence.
Surreal and cinematic
Peeping Tom is known for their surreal and cinematic performances, which fuse dance, theatre and illusion. Chroniques is a creation by Gabriela Carrizo, made in co-production with schrit_tmacher Festival and in collaboration with five performers/makers; including Heerler resident Simon Bus and former NDT 1 dancers Charlie Skuy and Boston Gallacher.
About Peeping Tom
The creators of Peeping Tom danced with several renowned international companies, including Alain Platel, Rosas, Maurice Béjart, Angelin Preljocaj and Needcompany.
Their main trademark is a hyper-realistic aesthetic supported by concrete scenography: a garden, living room and basement, two caravans in a snowy landscape, a burnt-out theatre, a retirement home or, as in Chroniques, a dystopian landscape. The choreographers create an unstable universe that defies the logic of time and space. Isolation leads to a dreamlike world of nightmares, fears and desires, in which the makers skillfully highlight the dark side of the individual or a community. In doing so, using film editing techniques, they manage to push the boundaries of a story we cannot put our finger on.
This performance is a co-production with schrit_tmacher NL.
