A comical, musical performance about a king who is terrified of everything. Especially elephants.
The king is terrified. Someone who doesn't look like him, he calls an enemy. Someone who lives differently from him is a stranger. He is so afraid that he builds walls around his land and forces everyone to look exactly like him. When he discovers that slissing people scare him less, he decides that everyone in the country must speak sliss. His fear is contagious. Everyone in the kingdom gets scared. Everyone except Samar.
Fear you can overcome
Samar en de bange koning (Samar and the frightened king) is a musical performance that humorously invites young audience members to overcome fears of themselves and others around them. Because Samar is not afraid; not of elephants and certainly not of the king. She finds it especially difficult to follow rules that no one really understands. The king becomes agitated by Samar. He calls this contrary subject to him and gives her a choice: she behaves like everyone else in his country, or she must leave the country immediately. Bravely, Samar enters the conversation with the king and his fear.

Theatre maker George Tobal is known for the imaginative way he shapes social themes such as inequality and refugees in a hopeful way. He previously directed such plays asThe Letters from Mia and Pech, with which he managed to reach a large youth theatre audience in particular, for whom going to the theatre was not really a matter of course.
