Moving and humorous mask theatre about loneliness and the inability to communicate with each other within a family.
In 2024, Toon Hermans Theatre hosted the wonderful André & Dorine. This season, the creative team behind this international award-winning mask theatre returns with Solitudes: a moving yet humorous performance about loneliness and the inability to communicate with each other within a family. Solitudes is a beautiful performance for anyone aged 14 and above.
A masterful balance between seriousness and humour without speaking a single word
In Solitudes , the protagonist feels misunderstood. Like many elderly people, for whom life seems more and more like waiting, he focuses on the small, simple things. These are invaluable to him; something his surroundings do not seem to understand. What is special about his story is that he does not resign himself to his fate. On the contrary: he fights for his small desires with touching determination and dignity. This has inevitable consequences; for himself and for those around him.
With a masterful balance between seriousness and humour, the Spanish Kulunka Teatro manages to move, surprise and give food for thought to young and old alike. Without speaking a single word. Spanish newspaper El Teatro called the performance "a work of art full of poetry and feeling."
