About care as a system and caring for one another within a community.
From 2023 to 2025, Stormkamer was featured at Cultura Nova with a theatrical project exploring existential (in)security and the gap between rich and poor in Heerlen-Noord. For *De Salon tussen Zorg en Zuchten* ,the Breda-based company is once again delving into Heerlen to gather stories from residents. This time, the focus is on care. Because, just like us, Stormkamer is concerned about care.
With *De Salon tussen Zorg en Zuchten*, Stormkamer launches a theatrical urban dialogue on an issue that is becoming increasingly urgent. How do we look after one another in a society where we seem to be pitted against one another more and more often? Who will look after whom in the future? In this performance, different worlds come together. Residents, care professionals and policymakers come together and engage in dialogue.
Care is one of the most fundamental aspects of our lives. Everyone needs care. We look after our children, parents, friends, neighbours or ourselves. Yet the word often evokes mixed feelings. And increasingly, when the subject of care comes up, a sigh is heard… ‘The Salon between Care and Sighs’ is no ordinary theatre performance. It is an interactive afternoon or evening in which conversations, music and theatrical performance alternate.
Stormkamer & Heerlen
‘The Salon’ is the first performance in a new, multi-year theatre project by Stormkamer in Heerlen. Stormkamer is talking to people in various cities about this topic. All the input will be incorporated into this and subsequent performances. In 2027, we’ll take you along on the next instalment: ‘The Encounter’. Kim Zonneveld of Stormkamer: “There’s something between Stormkamer and Heerlen. Perhaps it’s that heart-warming hospitality. Something honest, something anarchic too. Something with a strong desire for change. Something with a love of art and the realisation that you have to make something of it yourself. It’s something I can’t quite put my finger on yet. Perhaps it all sounds a bit woolly, but I’m always on the edge of my seat when it comes to Heerlen.”
