Your insecurity as a superpower

If you fall, you’ll shatter
When things get too hot under your feet, you melt away
When you have to cry, you slowly dissolve

Hardly anyone likes feeling insecure. So we pretend it isn’t the case and try to be unbreakable. Made of steel, not sugar. But why, exactly? Is it so bad if that seemingly strong wall around you turns out to be nothing more than a thin layer of sugar glass that shatters when someone pierces it? As soon as they enter the classroom, actors Kwint and Katoo strike up a conversation with the pupils. They are experts who have long since overcome their own insecurities. Do they really know themselves that well? Is there any point in pretending your insecurities don’t exist? What if that little voice in your head actually makes you more yourself?

Suikerglas is a philosophical, funny and musical ode to insecurity. Drawing on their own experiences, the actors use humorous scenes to help the class realise that they 
might actually be more alike than they thought. And that we all compare ourselves to others, have doubts and aren’t sure about everything. An interactive and energetic experience that challenges pupils to let their own ‘sugar coating’ melt away a little.

Suikerglas is a co-production by Toneelgroep Maastricht and Het Laagland, developed specifically for secondary schools and performed in the classroom.
