Verdi – Don Carlo
Aachen Opera / Bus trip to Aachen TheatreExternal venue - Theaterplatz Aachen - Theater Aachen
Power, love and freedom clash head-on in Don Carlo, one of Giuseppe Verdi’s great operas.
Spain is ruled by King Philip II. His son Don Carlo is in love with Elisabeth – his father’s wife. At the same time, Carlo is swept up in the struggle for Flanders’ freedom. As love and ideals come under ever-greater pressure, power, mistrust and intrigue determine who can still be trusted.
Verdi based *Don Carlo* on Friedrich Schiller’s political drama. The result is an impressive opera full of grand choral scenes, intimate moments and compelling music. Theater Aachen is staging the Italian version in four acts, directed by Elena Tzavara. The musical direction is in the hands of the new General Music Director, Levente Török.
