The family weekend you do want to go to!
A musical comedy full of sharp satire and recognisable Dutch discomfort. The makers of Ver van je bed ( 8 Musical Award nominations) bring We zijn toch familie, with Paul de Leeuw as father Evert and Annick Boer as mother Marjan.
When the Polman family goes on an old-fashioned family weekend to the Veluwe, Evert (Paul de Leeuw) hopes to get closer to his children - Hannah (Renée de Gruijl) and Pieter (Martijn Kardol) - again, despite Marjan's (Annick Boer) divorce. But Marjan is not coming alone: she has brought along her new partner Jan Dirk (Bart van Veldhoven), a hyper-enthusiastic life coach and sauna master who wants nothing more than to become part of this family.
Why this family weekend is completely out of control
The heated discussions about family history, retirement, parenthood, careers, the environment, private care homes and the future ensure that tension quickly rises during the weekend. Between the shuffleboard, strict house rules and make-up sessions in the Finnish Löyly, the family makes frantic attempts to keep things cosy at all times. But how long will they succeed? Who is afraid of the truth? And who is afraid of the Veluwe wolf?
In a world in constant flux, full of chaos, threats of war, climate change, AI developments and polarisation, at least there is always one certainty: the place you come from. And the people around you that you may call your family. Will this family still come to a shared happy ending, or will they remain stuck in this forced family setup? And what about those wolves outside, can't we just shoot them?
A mix of cabaret and musical with topical social satire
We zijn toch familie is the topical, humorous and recognisable musical comedy by writing talent Maarten Hopman, known from De Speld and Even tot hier. This musical is a mixture of cabaret and musical, combining the topical and socially critical aspects of cabaret with the grand and compelling aspects of a musical. A show with brand new music by composer Ezra van Nassauw. Director Owen Schumacher became known to the general public through Koefnoen and the Sinterklaasjournaal.
