Histoires Parallèles

Synopsis

With the intriguing drama *Histoires Parallèles*, two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi (A Separation, The Salesman) returns to Paris for his first French-language film since Le Passé, featuring a stellar French cast including Isabelle Huppert, Virginie Efira, Vincent Cassel, Catherine Deneuve, Pierre Niney and Adam Bessa.

In search of inspiration for her new novel, writer Sylvie (Isabelle Huppert) spies on her neighbours across the street and fills in the gaps in their lives using her own imagination. When the homeless Adam (Adam Bessa) appears in her life, those stories unexpectedly begin to take on a life of their own. Soon, the boundary between fiction and reality blurs, until they are barely distinguishable from one another.

*Histoires Parallèles* premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. For the film, Farhadi drew inspiration from Kieślowski, in particular *A Short Film About Love* from *Dekalog*, in which a voyeur becomes obsessed with his neighbour across the street.
