Synopsis

Amsterdam, the 1980s. The young journalist Jan Brokken interviews the world-famous pianist Youri Egorov, who fled the Soviet Union a few years earlier. What begins as a meeting between a journalist and a musician develops into an unexpected friendship between two men who could hardly be more different.

The flamboyant Youri relishes his newly acquired freedom and throws himself wholeheartedly into Amsterdam life and his music. Jan is more reserved and is still searching for the courage to take his own ambitions seriously. As their friendship deepens, Youri inspires him to leave his secure existence as a journalist behind and pursue his dream: to become a writer.

Sander Burger adapted Jan Brokken’s autobiographical bestseller *In het huis van de dichter*(In the Poet’s House) for the screen as *YOURI*. Joes Brauers plays Jan Brokken and Levan Gelbakhiani plays Youri Egorov. Julia Akkerman and Rick Paul van Mulligen also appear in the film.
