Synopsis
In DE GAULLE: RÉSISTANCE, Simon Abkarian takes on the role of Charles de Gaulle, the general who refuses to stand by and watch as France surrenders to Nazi Germany. Director Antonin Baudry presents the first part of an epic two-part series about resistance, political conviction and the struggle for a free France.
June 1940. France capitulates and signs an armistice with Germany. Whilst his homeland is falling apart, General Charles de Gaulle refuses to accept defeat. As a newly designated public enemy, he flees to London, without an army and with hardly any political support. There, from the ruins of a fallen France, he attempts to build a resistance movement. Driven by his unshakeable belief in a free France and a Europe that would not lay down its arms, de Gaulle sought allies for a struggle whose outcome was far from certain. Simon Russell Beale plays Winston Churchill and Mathieu Kassovitz appears as Admiral Darlan.
