Synopsis

The acclaimed director Esteban Martínez (Javier Bardem) is as famous for his films as he is notorious for his past, marked by violence and excess. After thirteen years away, he returns to Spain to make a new film and unexpectedly offers the lead role to his estranged daughter Emilia (Victoria Luengo), an actress struggling with her career.

What seems like an opportunity for reconciliation quickly turns into an emotional minefield on the film set. As father and daughter are forced to grow closer, old wounds are reopened and the boundaries between fiction and reality begin to blur.

*The Beloved* is a poignant drama by Oscar-nominated director Rodrigo Sorogoyen (*Las Bestias*, *Madre*) about family, power and the artistic life. Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo star in this film, which had its world premiere in the competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
